& 존 맥스웰, 짐 도넌이 쓴 영향력에 관한 아주 좋은 책이다. 영향력은 남이주는 평판이 아니라 하나님이 주시는 인격이다. 이러한 영향력이 어떠한 것이고 어떻게 다른 사람에게 영향을 끼칠수 있는지 챕터별로 설명해 나간다. 비행기가 연착되었을때 짐 도넌이 다른 승객들에게 보여준 선행은 정말 본받을 만하다.

Ain't it fine today?

What's the use of always weepin',
Making trouble last?

Life, it ain't no celebration,
Trouble?-I've had mine-
But today is fine!

It's today that I am livin',
Not a month ago.
Havin'; losin'; takin'; givin';
As time wills it so.
Yesterday a cloud of sorrow

It may rain again tomorrow,
It may rain-but say,
Ain't it fine today?

물론 이 세상은 문제투성이가 아니라고
나는 말하지 않았어
주님, 나는 두배나 더한 충분한 불평거리가 있죠
비와 폭풍이 나를 엄습해오고
하늘은 너무나 자주 회색빛이고
가시와 덤불이 나를 위협하지만
길가에서 이렇게 말하죠
오늘은 괜찮은 하루이자나

계속 과거의 문제들로 슬퍼하는것이
무슨 소용이 있으며
계속 과거에 대해 생각하는 것이
무슨 소용이 있을까
물에 포도주를 탄듯한
각자에 주어진 고통의 날이 있다
인생은 축제가 아니라 고통일까
나의 인생도 아픔이 있지만
오늘은 괜찮은 괜찮아

한달 전이 아니라 지금이
내가 살고 있는 오늘이다
가지고, 잃고, 얻고, 주는 것이
오늘도 계속된다
어제는 슬픔의 구름이
온통 가득했고
아마도 내일 또 비가 오겠지만
비가 오다고 해도
괜찮은 하루라고 말하겠지




* 인생은 고난의 연속이라는 사실속에서도 끊임없이 삶에 대한 끈을 단단히 붙잡고 있는 시인의 모습을 볼 수 있다. 또한 물에 포도주를 탄 것같은 비유는 마치 그리스도의 피를 연상시킬 정로록 강렬한 시각전 표현인것 같다. 시의 마지막 부분 "비가 온다고 해도 괜찮은 하루라고 말하겠지" 의 표현은 삶에 대한 , 즉 신에 대한 굳건한 믿음을 보여준다.

Be the brush in the valley but be,
The best little shrub on the side of the hill,
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.

If you can't be a tree, be a bit of the grass,
And some highway lovelier make.
If you can't be a muskie be a bass,
But the liveliest bass in the lake.

We can't all be captain, some have to be crew,
There's something for each of us here.
There's big things to do, there's little things to do.
The thing to do is the near.

So if you can't be a highway, be a trail.
If you can't be the sun, be a star.
It's not by size that we win or we fail,
Be the best of whatever you are.
